Olympic Village, London

The Athletes’ Village for The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games comprised a series of 8 and 9 storey accommodation blocks. Connecting these were a series of deck units, forming enclosed/glazed bridges. These deck units had to be installed after the blocks were constructed, and had to allow maximum installation tolerance as well as the ability to allow expansion movement between the blocks.

Leadenhall Building, London

The iconic Leadenhall Building in London gains its structural robustness from the steel lattice frame, which visible from the outside. Therefore, unlike most tall structures, the internal concrete walls do not need to act as the stiff core. Nevertheless, they are still required to form staircases and lift shafts. To reduce weight on the foundations, the walls were made in precast concrete using lightweight aggregates.

The City of Glasgow College project is on two principal campuses. The City Campus comprises a 7 storey block, an 11 storey spine tower, and a 4 storey wing. The frame is steelwork, carrying precast concrete floor slabs. Robustness anchorage is provided by a reinforced, in-situ concrete topping.

The 100-year old Usher Hall was recently renovated and extended to provide improved visitor facilities, including a curved foyer and refreshment area on the side of the circular building.
