Latest generation of stair landing connectors
Invisible Connections’ new RVK 60P and TSS 60P offer greater flexibility, cost efficiency and environmental benefits.
Our new RVK 60P and TSS 60P stair landing connectors have HDPE outers. These ‘slim design’ connectors can enable thinner landings and stair thicknesses, which means less concrete and less CO2. We’re also passing on costs savings to our customers for the alternative raw materials and leaner manufacture. All of which adds up to a better deal for the environment as well as for our customers.
Innovative product design and manufacturing contributes to more sustainable construction
We’re acutely aware that ‘construction and the built environment is the single biggest user of materials and generator of waste in the UK economy.’ Consequently, our approach to product development is informed by how we can best support the circular economy and drive greater resource efficiency.
By replacing the steel outer with a recycled polyethylene sleeve, we’ve halved the steel content. In the short term, this means a significant reduction in raw materials, production and carbon footprint. Our 60P HDPE outers are manufactured in Norway, where lean manufacturing techniques are powered by clean hydro-energy from local waterfalls. Long term, Design for Deconstruction (DfD) principles can be met since the steel inner tubes can be cut through and the precast landing removed and repurposed in its entirety when the structure is decommissioned.
The new 60P connectors enable thinner landings. Full capacity is reached at 170mm but 60P connectors can theoretically be used down to 120mm thick. Thinner slabs mean less concrete, resulting in lower CO2 emissions.
Owing to their distinctive appearance, you can now safely mix and match our new 60P connectors in the same landing. For example, 60P connectors can be used at the ‘rear’ of a landing, combined with a pair of RVK101 or TSS101 connectors at the ‘front’ (nearest the flights). Improved cost efficiency
We’re aware of the pressures of increasing costs faced by the construction industry in general. Since we’ve reduced the cost of raw materials for our 60P variants, we’ve passed on these cost savings on to our customers.
When traditional means of supporting precast elements (RSAs, for example) are used, structural performance requirements can be undermined by poor installation. On the other hand, being simple and easy to install, telescopic connectors greatly reduce the opportunity for poor workmanship which can lead to such structural concerns.
We’ve taken performance and safety even further by incorporating a built-in feature to the 60P sleeve design. The HDPE outer has integral clips to receive local reinforcement, which ensures accurate positioning of reinforcement bars. These clips are purpose designed to accommodate 8mm bars, so local reinforcement is both lighter and easier to fit into landings – which are often already congested with reinforcement.
In addition, both 60P variants have integral lugs for optionally wiring the back ends of the connectors to the landing slab reinforcement cage to make installation even easier.
